AN ARTIST FROM THE CANARY ISLANDS WINS SECOND PRIZE AT THE III INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION

Runner-up 2004 Francisco Mantecón
The Bodegas Terras Gauda panel of judges that included the prestigious designer Alberto Corazón, awarded the prizes for the III "Francisco Mantecón" International Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art in Vigo. Jonathan García García, an artist from Las Palmas, was awarded one of two second prizes of 1,500 euros.

First prize of 6,000 euros was awarded to Ana Cividanes Álvarez, while Fidel Sclavo Fernández from Uruguay was also awarded second prize of 1,500 euros. Italian designer Vittorio Turla was given a special mention, an award not included in the terms of the competition.

More than a thousand entries were sent to the III "Francisco Mantecón" International Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art from across five continents. The winners have been selected from designs sent from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Canada and New Zealand.

PENAGOS, MANTECÓN AND ABC: ANOTHER YEAR OF PRIZE-GIVING

Something is happening in the world of artistic prize-giving (without going any further, the ABC of Photography and the ABC of Painting has become The ABC Prize of Painting and Photography for Young Artists since the sixth year of the competition). If a few weeks ago the Fundación Mapfre took note of the new artistic tendencies in Penagos by awarding Virgina Frieyro first prize in its competition, the "Francisco Mantecón" Prize, which represents the wine producing corporation Terras Gauda, is now into its third year as an international competition that features a prominent name in the design industry on its jury to ensure all angles are covered.

This year the "responsibility" fell upon Alberto Corazón who followed last year´s designer, Mariscal. Corazón presided the jury that selected the winner, Ana Cividanes –a name which has been kept out of the public domain until today giving rise to much speculation – as well as the 25 finalists that will be exhibiting their entries at the Fundación Caixa Galicia in Vigo until the 22nd.

ANA CIVIDANES WINS THE TERRAS GAUDA POSTER DESIGN COMPETITION

The winner was announced yesterday at a gala event which took place at the headquarters of the Fundación Caixa Galicia

Winner 2004 Francisco Mantecón The jury of the competition launched by Bodegas Terras Gauda, which included the prestigious designer Alberto Corazón, yesterday awarded the prizes of the III "Francisco Mantecón" International Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art, selected from over a thousand entries sent from across five continents. The name of the winner was announced at an event which took place at the headquarters of the Fundación Caixa Galicia in Vigo. Galician-born Ana Cividanes Álvarez was awarded the first prize of 6,000 euros. Moreover, her entry will be the basis for the next advertising campaign launched by the wine producer. Ana Cividanes has a degree in Fine Arts, was born in A Guarda and works as a graphic designer.

The jury awarded two second prizes of 1,500 euros each to Jonathan García García of the Canary Islands and Fidel Sclavo Fernández from Uruguay. It also gave a special mention to Italian designer Vittorio Turla, an award not included in the terms of the competition. The winners were selected from 26 finalists that included entries from Malaysia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Canada, Hong Kong and Taiwan....

ANA CIVIDANES AN ARTIST FROM PONTEVEDRA WINS THE III "FRANCISCO MANTECÓN" POSTER ART COMPETITION

Ana Cividanes Álvarez an artist from Pontevedra was yesterday awarded the first prize of 6,000 euros for the III "Francisco Mantecón" International Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art in Vigo launched by the wine producer Terras Gauda. Moreover, her entry will be the basis for the next advertising campaign launched by the wine producer. The director of the wine producer José María Fonseca, awarded the certificate and the winning cheque at an event presented by Lugo-based journalist Fernando Ónega.

The jury, which included among others the designer Alberto Corazón also awarded two second prizes of 1,500 euros each to Jonathan García García of the Canary Islands and Fidel Sclavo Fernández from Uruguay. It also gave a special mention to Italian Vittorio Turla an award not included in the terms of the competition.

The winners were selected from twenty six finalists from around a thousand entries that came from countries across five continents including Malaysia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Canada, the US, Cuba, China, Uruguay, New Zealand, The Philippines, Taiwan, Rumania, France, Denmark, South Africa and Italy.....

"THE FUTURE OF DESIGN LIES AT THE ROOT OF LOCAL CULTURE"

Alberto Corazón The prestigious designer, sculptor and Spanish painter Alberto Corazón, winner of the National Design Prize in 1989 and the only European to receive the Gold Medal at the American Institute of Graphic Arts, is responsible for well-known works that are easily recognisable in daily life such as the corporate logos of the Regional Government of Andalusia, The Spanish National Organisation of the Blind (ONCE), Anaya, the Caja Madrid cash machines and Telefonica appliances. The artist is one of the members of the jury of the third "Francisco Mantecón" International Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art launched by the wine producer Terras Gauda.

Corazón attended the company offices in the municipality of O Rosal to select the winner from more than a thousand entries sent from countries such as The Philippines, the US, Serbia, New Zealand and Italy. The decisions of the jury will be announced in mid November. The winner will receive 6,000 euros and the winning entry will be the basis for the next advertising campaign launched by the wine producer. In addition, a selection of the best entries will be put forward for a collective exhibition at the headquarters of Caixa Galicia in Vigo...

MORE THAN TWENTY CANTABRIANS PARTICIPATE IN THE "FRANCISCO MANTECÓN" INTERNATIONAL ADVERTISING POSTER ART COMPETITION

The jury of the III "Francisco Mantecón" International Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art, launched by Bodegas Terras Gauda, is facing the challenge of making a selection of the best entries sent from across five continents. More than a thousand posters, of which 97 come from Cantabrian artists, are competing for the first prize.

Entries have been sent from 38 countries, some as far afield as Iran, China, Malaysia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, The Philippines, Kuwait and the Ukraine. American participation in this competition has been outstanding. Artists from the United States, Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Peru, Mexico and Uruguay, among others, are competing for the first prize or one of the competition´s two second prizes. The winners will be announced at the headquarters of the Fundación Caixa Galicia in Vigo on the 19 November. Also of note was the participation of the Italians as 171 entries were sent from this transalpine country.

ANDALUCIAN ARTISTS PARTICIPATE IN THE TERRAS GAUDA COMPETITION

The jury of the III "Francisco Mantecón" International Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art, launched by Bodegas Terras Gauda, is facing the challenge of making a selection of the best entries sent from across five continents. The number of entries from Andalusia breaks down as follows: Seville (22), Almeria (14), Granada (13), Malaga (13), Cadiz (12), Huelva (11), Cordoba (8) y Jaen (4). Several entries have been sent from countries as far afield as Iran, China, Malaysia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, The Philippines Kuwait, Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Peru, Mexico and the Ukraine. Also of note was the participation of the Italians as 171 entries were sent from this country. The winners will be announced in Vigo on the 19 November.

INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION OF ADVERTISING POSTER ART

Any natural person or legal entity can take part in this competition. All original material must be unpublished and should be taken or delivered to the Bodegas Terra Gauda branch (information on telephone number 986 62 11 11). All work must be burnt onto a CD or floppy disc (readable in PC format) or printed and affixed onto an appropriately protected polystyrene foam presentation board that must not exceed A0 format (118x84 centimetres) and must be no smaller than A4 format (29.7x21 centimetres).

Bodegas Terras Gauda S.A.´s Board of Administration has unanimously agreed to establish an annual Design Competition of Advertising Poster Art. The competition is open to any designer that wishes to participate. All original material must be unpublished and should be taken or delivered to the Bodegas Terra Gauda branch at O Rosal.

PEntries can be submitted using pictorial, photographic or computing techniques, etc. Solely those original entries that make use of pictorial techniques (oil, watercolours, gouache, pastel, etc.) do not require a computerised version.
